HOW TO PLAY:
Setup:
At the start of the game, each player gets a set of tiles that represent different components of their ship. These include cargo holds, engines, shields, and special components like lasers or extra storage. Players also have a mission card that dictates the specific route they will be traveling and the cargo they need to deliver.
Real-Time Ship Building:
The game begins with a real-time phase where players rapidly pick tiles from a central pile to build their ships. The tiles must be placed in a way that creates a functional and balanced ship. You need engines to move, cargo holds to store goods, and shields to protect from space debris. The challenge is to build quickly while also trying to create a ship that can survive the harsh space conditions.
Space Journey:
After the ships are built, the real challenge begins: navigating the dangerous route. Players move their ships along a track of tiles representing different parts of space. The space route includes obstacles like asteroids, space pirates, and other hazards that can damage or destroy the ship. Players need to carefully manage their ship's resources, like fuel and shields, to survive.
Cargo Delivery:
The main objective is to deliver cargo to the end of the route. Players earn money based on how much cargo they successfully deliver, with extra rewards for completing the mission efficiently. However, the cargo is fragile—if the ship is damaged, cargo might be lost, or even the entire ship could be destroyed.
Hazards and Obstacles:
Along the way, players will encounter various challenges. Asteroids and debris can damage your ship, and you might have to deal with space pirates who attack your ship, causing further damage. The key to success is ensuring your ship can withstand these challenges and that you have enough fuel, shields, and cargo space to make it through unscathed.
Points and Winning:
After completing the route, players score points based on the cargo they delivered, any bonuses from the mission card, and how intact their ship is. Damage to your ship reduces your points, so it’s a balancing act between taking risks and playing it safe. The player with the highest score after completing a set number of rounds wins the game.
Game Variants:
Galaxy Trucker has different game modes that can alter the way the game is played. Players can choose to take on shorter or longer routes, adjust the difficulty level by adding more hazards, or play with different mission cards that change the objectives and scoring. The flexibility in the game’s setup keeps each playthrough exciting and fresh.
Real-Time Speed and Tension:
One of the defining aspects of Galaxy Trucker is the real-time tile placement. The clock is ticking, and you need to think quickly and make split-second decisions. This creates a sense of urgency and excitement, as you might find yourself racing to complete your ship before disaster strikes.
